We know you’ve got questions, and we’ve got answers! Whether you're getting ready to rent a car or planning your next Maui adventure, here’s everything you need to know.

  • Each Primary and Additional Drivers must:

    • Have a valid driver’s license, foreign drivers license or international drivers permit. All international drivers must also have their own valid country specific drivers license. 

    • Either have valid personal auto policy or purchase our Insurance Protection Waivers to satisfy at least our minimum full coverage. And/or a valid major credit card benefits packet information showing its Collision benefits which must also be the card you are using to pay for the rental and in the primary renter’s name.

    • What heaven it would be for us but no, you’re on vacation, enjoy it. Return the car hassle free, without worrying about cleaning up after your trip; but, be mindful, there can be a cleaning fee for excessive filth such as requiring upholstery cleaning, spilled beverages, stains, pet hair, smoke removal, water/salt damage, interior sunblock stains or your dirty socks…but don’t where socks with your slippahs (flip-flops)

    • No spray-on sunscreen, use reef-safe sunscreen only and apply your sunblock while you are outside of the vehicle.

  • You need one or the other. 

    • Insurance is very important and difficult to understand, but we can help. You can use use your own at no extra charge or buy our Insurance Protection Waivers. You're responsible for the Vehicle while it's in your possession during your trip so it’s important to double and triple check with your insurance provider to ensure that you have full comprehensive, collision and liability insurance that will cover you and your additional drivers during the entire rental period for you rental car in Hawaii. There are a lot of visitors who aren’t accustom to the local laws and/or language and many are unfamiliar with the roads and their cars, add jet-lag, epic scenery and vacation brain and then shake it all up - practice defensive driving! 

    • If you’re not using our Insurance Protection Waivers then we require proof of insurance via a “Declaration Page” PDF obtained from your insurance provider. We are not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the Renters existing coverage and it is up to the Renter(s) to examine his or her credit card policies and/or personal auto insurance policies and/or other sources of coverage. Your credit card and/or insurance may partially or fully cover rental cars in Hawaii but without proof, you may need our Collision and/or Liability Protection Waivers at an additional charge. For our full coverage insurance protection waivers you will need both the CDW & LW and they must be purchased at the start of your Rental.

    • We can offer long-term discounts for coverage.

    • Similar virtually all-inclusive coverage usually costs up to $85/day at most major rental car companies. There are numerous other ways obtain Rental Car Insurance through 3rd parties companies or increase your existing auto coverage to cover rental cars in Hawaii. We make it easy and often cheaper for you by offering our Insurance Protection Waivers

  • No, Additional drivers are free as long as each driver either has their own personal auto policy or purchases our Insurance Protection Waiver(s). Most companies charge an additional $12-$15/day for each additional driver; we do not.

    • Yes, we have free Pickup & Drop-off at the Kahului airport 24/7, the Cruise Ship Wharf or anywhere else in Kahului. We can even deliver or pick up your car in Kihei, Ma’alaea, Lahaina, the JHN Kapalua airport and all the way to Hana and the Hana Maui Resort for a small service charge. 

    • To expedite pick-up - Text as SOON as you land & then AGAIN once you have your bags and we’ll pick you up at the baggage claim area curbside** 1.808.TOO.MAUI (1.808.866.6284).

  • We rent snorkel gear, surfboards, kayaks, beach chairs, and other outdoor adventure essentials. Simply add what you need when booking your car, and we’ll have everything ready for you.

  • Not at all! Our gear rentals are available whether or not you rent a car from us. You can rent just what you need for a day at the beach or a day on the waves.

  • Parking can be limited at popular spots. We suggest arriving early for sunrise or sunset views. Be mindful of no-parking zones, and always lock up any gear or valuables.

THE ROAD TO HANA Code of Conduct

  • Pull over for local traffic. Do not hold up vehicles behind you.

    Do not park along the Hana Highway in spaces that are not designated parking stalls.

    Visit State parks and County parks for access to bathroom facilities, do not use the roadsides or forest as restrooms.

  • Enjoy the various farms, botanical gardens and fruit stands along the way, do not trespass on private property.

  • Avoid sites located on or beyond private properties, and do not attempt to access areas that lack visitor welcoming signage. Visit HanaMaui.com to review their business directory which features activities and accommodations in the region. Support local businesses on your visit.

  • Park in designated parking stalls. Vehicles protruding onto the highway are subject to being ticketed and towed. Do not create traffic hazards or contribute to delays for residents. This roadway is utilized by supply hauling companies, school buses and first responders.

  • No walking on Hana Highway, visit sites and attractions with permitted, legal and safe parking only. The highway is a major transient route with a large volume of traffic commuting in both directions. It isn’t safe to walk along Hana Highway, Do not stand on the bridges.

  • Do not enter streams on occasions of heavy rains and flash flooding conditions, drownings can, and do occur. Avoid Hana Highway when it is raining to avoid potential landslides.

  • Please respect the ‘Aina (land) by picking up any trash and placing trash in proper receptacles. Stay on the paths, respect the wildlife and plants, do not take rocks or sand.

  • Enjoy the beauty of East Maui but please do not exploit or monetize the cultural sites on social media. Avoid publishing content that exposes the location of sites located on or beyond private property that have been known to incur visitor injuries and fatalities.
